About 1453 orthodox. The din of war rang out in the Ottoman Sultanate. This time the enemy is one of the superpowers of the time, the Byzantine Empire. Against whom the ancestors of Sultan Mehmed could not achieve success even after trying for a hundred and fifty years.

However, this time the twenty-one-year-old Sultan is determined. Day and night he relentlessly researches the boundaries and power of the Byzantine Empire. It is known that since the age of six, when other children were busy decorating dollhouses, little Mehmed’s daily job was to climb the ‘Byzantine Wall‘.

The words of Rasulullah SAW: A simple translation of the Prophet’s prophecy regarding the conquest of Byzantine and Constantinople means:

Constantinople will surely be conquered (by the Muslims), how fortunate is the commander of this victory, and how fortunate is the army of this victory!” (At-Tarikhul Kabir by Imam Bukhari, Musnad by Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, Ahmad’i and Tabari). This hadith is recorded in Al-Muzmaul Kabir by the Prophet (SAW).

Ottoman forces led by Sultan Muhammad al-Fatih lay siege to Constantinople. 53 days have passed, but there is no chance of Constantinople falling. Because, at that time, the strongest fortress wall in the world was the fortress wall of Constantinople.

The Crusaders fortified the castle walls to protect against the increasingly powerful Ottoman Empire. It was announced throughout the Ottoman Empire that preparations for war against the Byzantines had begun and that those interested could join the army. Only 24 years old, the young Ottoman Sultan Muhammad al-Fatih was determined not to return to the capital of the Sultanate, Bursa, without conquering Constantinople.

The Muslim army of the Sultan’s call and Rasulullah’s prophesy…Thousands of young men aspired to join the army in order to bless themselves by becoming that fortunate general of prophecy. One of them was “Ulubatli Hasan” of Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. He ran to Sultan Mehmed to bless his life by doing Jihad in the way of Allah. Joined the Muslim army

Ulubatli Hasan Birth and Genealogy:

Born in 1428. In the village of Ulubat, near Karachab, Bursa Province, Turkey. 25 years old young man. Merkut was a brave, heroic soldier of the great ‘Janissary army’ of the Ottoman Empire. According to Scottish historian Lord Kinrose’s “The Ottoman Centuries” he was a very tall man. The name “Ulubatli Hasan” means “Hasan of Ulubat“. He is still remembered with humble reverence for his heroic role during the conquest of Constantinople.

Ulubatli Hasan in the battlefield:

On May 29, 1453, before the Fajr prayer, the Muslim soldiers put on clean clothes and apologized to each other. After completing the Fajr prayer under the leadership of Sultan Mehmed, the soldiers went to their respective places and stood in line.

Ulubatli Hasan also took his place in the front row… with the flag of his Muslim Sultanate in one hand and the shield in the other. The Battle Begins The battleship breaks through the fortified walls of Constantinople, creating an impact within the city. The Ottomans struck the final blow. But no; Wall-fall has no reputation! At that very risky and delicate moment, Hasan Ulubatli took a groundbreaking decision.

He decided to sit alone on the wall of the fort. What you think is what you do. Armed with a sword, a small shield and the Ottoman flag, he marched towards the ramparts. 30 more soldiers were encouraged by his bravery. They follow him. His intention was to hoist the Ottoman flag on the ramparts

A fierce battle is going on around the fort walls. Ignoring the clanging of swords and the rain of arrows, Hasan started moving towards the wall at a rapid pace. He is followed by his followers. One by one, 17 of them fell to the ground and became martyrs.

But as he is running, suddenly an arrow hits him. He did not back down. Ignore the pain and move on. Then climbed the ladder and climbed the wall. Another arrow hit him. He defends himself as he reads.

Enduring all the hardships, he continues to climb up. Finally he climbed the ramparts of the fort and hoisted the Ottoman flag there. Arrows were still raining down on him. He was bruised by the arrows. However, he continued to protect the flag with his body.

Just then 12 of his followers managed to reach him. They stood around him. Hassan couldn’t hold himself anymore; He fell down and immediately drank the nectar of martyrdom. After examining him, 27 arrows were pierced in his body! Seeing the Ottoman flag flying on the walls of Constantinople, the morale of the Ottoman army increased dramatically.

The Sultan ordered the final blow. The Ottoman cannons began to explode with a thunderous noise. In no time, the weak part of the wall cracks. Once the wall collapsed. Through that crack, the Ottoman army started to enter like a tidal wave.

Constantinople was conquered. The traditional Roman Empire and its civilization of one and a half thousand years were thrown into the dustbin of history. And that place is filled by Islam. It was then that Constantinople was renamed “Islambul”. It means the city of Islam. From Islambul to Istanbul.
